A lead shop is an online portal where companies order leads themselves. The buyer chooses vertical, region and volume, tops up credit or buys on invoice, and then receives matching leads automatically. The operator of a lead shop is usually a lead generator, a portal or a network that sells its own leads to a fixed circle of buyers.
How it works
Registration
The buyer creates an account in the lead shop. Depending on the operator, the account is activated immediately or checked first, for example for business status, industry and region.
Setting up quotas and territories
In the buyer portal, the buyer defines which lead vertical they want to receive, in which territory (postcodes, radius, state or county) and in what volume per day or in total. Delivery windows and pauses complete the order. The operator does not have to set anything up by hand.
Credit or invoice
Payment is made either with prepaid credit that the buyer tops up online, or on invoice. The price per lead follows the vertical and the chosen model, for example exclusive or shared.
Automatic delivery
When a lead arrives that matches vertical, territory and an open quota, it is delivered to the buyer automatically: in the portal, by email, webhook or CRM connection. The credit is charged or the item is added to the next invoice.
Account statement
Every delivery, every top-up and every credit note appears in the buyer's account statement, so it stays clear what the credit was used for.
Complaints
If a lead cannot be reached or is faulty, the buyer reports it in the shop with a complaint reason. If the complaint is accepted, they receive a credit note and the quota is corrected.
Lead shop vs. lead marketplace vs. lead exchange
The three terms are often used interchangeably, but they describe different models.
- Lead shop: the operator sells its own leads to its own buyers. It controls prices, verticals and quality, and buyers serve themselves in the shop. The shop carries the operator's brand.
- Lead marketplace: a third-party platform where many providers list their leads and many buyers purchase. The platform operator acts as intermediary, and the buyers do not belong to any single provider. The Leadnodes lead marketplace follows this model.
- Lead exchange: leads are not ordered at a fixed price but auctioned in real time or offered via ping-post. The price is set by bids and the winner receives the full data.
A lead shop is therefore a provider's own sales counter, a marketplace is a third party's counter, and an exchange is a pricing mechanism. In practice many operators combine the models: regular customers order in the lead shop at a fixed price, surplus goes to the exchange.
Benefits
For operators
- Less effort: buyers set up quotas, territories and credit themselves instead of ordering by email.
- Predictable cash flow: prepaid credit is topped up before delivery.
- Scalable: new buyers join without additional set-up work.
- Own brand: the shop runs under the operator's name, not under a third-party platform.
For buyers
- Full control: vertical, region, volume, delivery windows and pauses can be adjusted at any time.
- Transparency: price per lead, account statement and complaint status are visible in the portal.
- Speed: leads arrive automatically as soon as they match, with no coordination by phone or email.
How Leadnodes does it
Leadnodes gives operators a buyer portal that works as a lead shop: buyers set up quotas and prepaid credit themselves, choose vertical and territory and receive matching leads automatically. Prepaid and invoice purchase, online payment by credit card or SEPA, account statements and a structured complaint workflow with automatic credit notes are included. With white label, the shop runs under your own domain, with your own logo and your own payment account, hosted in Germany. The features that define the software category are described on the lead shop software page.
FAQ
Do I need my own leads to run a lead shop?
Yes. A lead shop sells the operator's leads to the operator's buyers. If you have no leads of your own, you are better placed as a buyer on a marketplace.
How do buyers pay in a lead shop?
Prepaid credit topped up online and purchase on invoice are the usual options. With prepaid, every delivered lead is deducted from the credit straight away; with invoice, deliveries are billed in one statement.
Can a buyer pause deliveries?
Yes. Buyers can set pauses and delivery windows in the portal and change quotas. Delivery stops and resumes automatically after the pause.
